View of the ramp on a typical summer afternoon at EMA. A mix of low cost airline and charter flights from Jet2 and Tui line up for continental destinations serving the UK summer holiday demand. Ryanair serves EMA from its own low cost terminal situated to the left of this shot. The FlyBe aircraft is one of EMA’s remaining domestic services, in this picture with service to Belfast.
This photograph is taken from the enclosed terminal connecting bridge, linking the regular terminal with the dedicated Ryanair annex.
EMA is also a major freight hub, with DHL and UPS having important hubs as well as other freight operators making it the second most important airport by freight volume in the UK after Heathrow. A major logistics and rail terminal is also being constructed adjacent to the airport, the ‘East Midlands Gateway’ will be completed by early 2020.
East Midlands Airport is located in between the East Midlands cities of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby.
