Amtrak Chicago Union Station – Inside View
Opened in 1925 Union Station is the 3rd busiest rail terminal in the USA with ~120,000 daily users and is served by 14 Amtrak services and 5 Metra regional commuter lines. Designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham in Beaux-Arts style the project took 12 years to complete and Burnham did not live to see it completed.
A major 6 year restoration project commenced in 2015 to renovate the station, including opening up long-closed spaces and replacing the worn staircases with marble from the original quarry near Rome, Italy.
